Competitors
who expected that Lexus would confine
itself to marketing extremely well-built,
ultra-refined sedans without much overt
excitement got some bad news last year
when Lexus introduced its new GS
lineup.
|
From its standout
styling to its extraordinary all-around
performance, this Lexus sedan is anything but
innocuous.The V-8-powered GS400 has 300 horsepower
flowing through a five-speed automatic transmission
-- which can be shifted via buttons
on the steering wheel -- to exercise its
sophisticated suspension. The result is the highest
top speed, most tenacious cornering grip, and
shortest stopping distance of any car in the class.
The 225-hp six-cylinder GS300 shines brightly in
its group as well.
Meanwhile, both
models deliver the full gamut of necessary luxury
features, plush interior accommodations, and
velvety refinement that are the hallmarks of the
Lexus model line. And with prices that are at the
low end of their class ranges, these GS models are
very convincing.
